Anxious
thoughts.
They catch me
off guard, surprising me with their tenacity. They rattle me during the day,
and bombard me at night.
After
surviving our son’s battle, I never really thought I’d have to deal with
trusting God with my kids again. But apparently there’s always room to grow in
the trust department.
So, with our
daughter off on her first foreign mission trip, I’m choosing to trust my
heavenly Father. Practically, that means I’m walking, standing, sitting, and breathing
prayers on her behalf, and on behalf of the entire team in the Dominican Republic. Every time I feel like I miss her so much I can barely breathe, I pray. (I'm praying a lot!)
It also means
that scripture takes on a new dimension.
Have you ever noticed that? In the thick of it, when our hearts feel overwhelmed, scripture comes most alive. I believe it’s because when our hearts are desperate, they are poised to hear from God.

very good position to be in.

Right now I
am embracing the struggle/opportunity to soak in God’s word and trust Him, and my heart

For no specific reason, I awoke filled with anxious thoughts today. I enjoyed reading your post this morning, as it drew me back into the realization that the struggle for my peace is a spiritual battle, and should be handled as such. I read your story from '09 and was moved by your honesty and transparency. Thank you for your help this morning. I will be honored to pray for Emily. I am certain this will be a life-changing adventure for her! God Bless. Wonderful words of encouragement once again Julie! My daughter is going on a mercy mission to Guatamala in October. She is on a team of doctor and nurses who will perform operations. My daughter is a recovery room nurse and is so excited to do this! I on the other hand, am very happy that she is able to meet her desires to assist the poor, however, I am petrified at the thought of her in the jungle....you know? I will write that Psalm down right now and start to pray it every day.
Oh, Julie, I can so relate! Praying that her mission trip will be a huge spiritual growth spurt and come home safe and sound. :)
