How to Pray for Your Kids

I don’t know a parent alive who has not been deeply shaken by the recent unthinkable tragedy in a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school.

But I want to encourage you that it’s not a time to fear for our children (and our grandchildren), but to pray for them.

If you have no idea where to begin, I’d like to share what I regularly pray over my kids—even my 32 year old. Because we’re always moms, no matter what our kid’s age, and if we don’t pray for them, who on earth will?

Pray that your kids will:

  • Receive, accept and walk in the love of Christ and know and honor Him all the days of their lives.
  • Walk in the fear of God – And develop and maintain a healthy, awe-filled respect for the Lord all the days of their lives.
  • Have a craving for the Word of God and regularly read their Bibles and maintain an intimate, ongoing, increasingly powerful prayer life.
  • Be guided by the Holy Spirit – With all the negative influences of media/internet/video games, may they be more responsive to the pressure and guidance of the Holy Spirit than ANY negative peer pressure.
  • Have hearts that are - willing, humble, teachable, obedient, and filled with worship.
  • Have thoughts and plans that are shaped by God’s will.
  • Have friendships and relationships ordained by God, and that He will remove the friends He wants removed.
  • Possess a tender conscience that yields to the Holy Spirit.
  • Walk in wisdom, discernment, and godly understanding all the days of their lives.
  • Have hearts that are quick to repent, forgive, and make things right.
  • Have ears that hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying to them and the ability to always recognize when the Lord is speaking to them.
  • Walk in a healthy respect of authority.
  • Possess the mind of Christ and hold the thoughts, feeling, and purposes of His heart.
  • Walk in God’s Supernatural Protection – That He will go before them and prepare the way and be their rear Guard.
  • Live productive, joyful, peace-filled lives and fulfill their God-given destinies in Christ.

When we regularly pray for our children, we invite their Creator into the intimate, everyday aspects of their lives, and He will move. As we continue to pray, He will enable us to trust Him when the world seems to be going crazy.

This is what our pastor said on Sunday too, Julie. Pray for the children, but don't walk in fear. We all have to go on living and fear cripples the ability to do that.

This is great Julie! Thank you. Have you considered making this into a bookmark or something to tuck in a Bible? ;)

Love to you, Hester ;)

If only this prayer for our children and the Fasting that you recommend go hand in hand, what marvellous results, it would fetch! Thank you so much for these guidelines! May God use you mightily for His glory!
