If you are
visiting from my Proverbs 31 Ministries devotion, welcome!
In the above devotion,
I talk about how I learned to stop just praying against fear, and started
praying for courage, for peace, and for boldness. There is nothing wrong with praying against fear—or praying
against anything, for that matter—but I sensed there was so much more to be
gained by praying for.
Instead of
praying against depression, we can pray for joy.
Instead of
praying against discouragement, we can ask God to send hope and encouragement
to our hearts.
Instead of
praying against anger we can pray for calmness and self-control.
A good
scriptural example is King David, who said, “But when I am afraid, I will put my trust
in you.” (Psalm 56:3) Because the opposite of fear is trust.
My hope is that learning to not only pray
against, but also for, will
strengthen your prayer life and strengthen your heart. I know this simple
strategy has done that for me.
