My Determined Purpose

On most days, my goals remain simple enough: Keep general order in the house. Smile more, snap at my family less. Finish the laundry. Keep our Australian Shepherd dog, Sophie, away from our chubby black cat, Shadow. Get through our school day with good attitudes. Avoid sales calls. Throw in a good home-made dinner, and some form of chocolate, and I'm a happy camper.

But recently I've felt the Lord challenge me to really know my main purpose in life. Yes, I'm a wife, mother, teacher, sister, friend, and writer, and I do all the 'stuff' that those titles imply, by His grace. But I don't want all the stuff of life to crowd out the Giver of Life.

"For my determined purpose is that I may know Him - that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him..." ~Philippians 3:10a (Amplified Bible)

Which got me to thinking. How do you get to know someone? By spending time with them. You know, a phone call, a walk together, dinner. And when you really want to know someone, you invite them to your home. "Come on over, I've got some fresh sour cream pound cake...we'll just hang out...it'll be fun!" Then you spend an entire afternoon talking and laughing together, really getting to know each other.

That's exactly what the Lord wants with me; to be invited over. Every day.

So, Lord, today I purpose in my heart to get to know you more. Please come right in and spend the day with me and talk with me. Help me to see and hear YOU in my everyday life. Reveal yourself to me through your Word and by your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen.

Love the site, and the words you write. (ooh, a poem) Seriously, this site is just like you. It is refreshing, thoughtful, and full of our Lord's presence.
