Earlier in the week my husband had to travel unexpectedly to California--for two weeks. The day after he left, I backed out of the garage to run some errands, when I noticed the red cedar in front of our garage ackwardly imitating the leaning Tower of Pisa.After making a slightly panicked phone call to a friend who works with trees, I left the house confident that our sad, bushy friend would be prostrate on the lawn when I returned. Defying gravity and all logic, the tree remains in its off kilter position as I await its rescue.
With my husband missing in action, all of the many errands and the helpful things he handles around the house have landed on me, making me feel as off kilter as the tree in my front yard. So I'm doing what any self-respecting mom would do: I'm leaning on God. I'm praying. And, I'm delegating.
My kids (19 and 13) awoke this weekend to find an 8x10 sheet of paper taped to a kitchen cupboard, bulleting all the chores that needed to be done on Saturday morning:
- Mow the grass (yes, we still mow in Florida, even in February)
- Weed-whack entire yard (ditto)
- Wash the car
- Vacuum the house
- Mop the floors
- Sweep out the garage
- Everyone clean their own bathroom
Are there too many things on your To Do List? Lean on God. Transfer the weight of your load onto Him. And pray. Ask the Lord to show you what you can delegate or delay. And watch Him rearrange your load in surprising ways.

I am working on "delegation". It's not my natural inclination.

My life seems to have gone walk-about lately. If it weren't for the Lord's having my back I think I would've blown up by now. Praise God for HIS love, grace & mercy to get us through.

Oh Julie, did I ever remember the few times my husband has been away when I read this. I tend to over-organize without him, and by the fourth or fifth day of his absence, everything seemed dull and too routine, devoid of the wonderful goofiness he brings to our lives.
Thank God for marriage, right? We really are better together.
