Choosing Well

It’s been a challenging week for me—an emotional rip-tide dragged me under and it’s been hard to get my footing.

This week, son #2 went into Basic Training for the U.S. Army, and son #1 leaves for Afghanistan, and oh, my mama-heart has ached. Then my hubby got a major tooth infection and wound up at the oral surgeon’s yesterday. Tomorrow  our new daughter-in-law heads back home to California to be with her folks during son #2’s training. I’m going to miss that sweet girl. And oh, my daughter and I are planning a college campus visit so she can choose a dorm room for the fall...an empty nest looms.

And did I mention I have a book hitting stores in 3 weeks?

So when I fell into bed last night, it was just a little hard for my overwhelmed heart to settle down. As I lay there straining to find sleep, I quoted Isaiah 26:3. Finally I sighed and said, Jesus, I need my heart to be still.

I heard a whispered response. You have need of one thing.

And I do. I so desperately do.

When we feel overwhelmed, our hearts ache, and life is dragging us under, we have need of one thing.

Jesus.

He is our peace, our hope, and the source of our joy.

In the middle of it all, we can choose well. And when we choose Him, He will fill us, calm us, comfort us. He will stabilize our footing and settle our hearts in spite of the undertow.

This week, sweet friends, wherever your life takes you, remember to choose well. When life makes you feel desperate, or overwhelmed, or dragged under, my fervent prayer is you will hear the One who loves you whisper You have need of one thing.

My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.” (Psalm 27:8)

Oh, Julie! My heart goes out to you. But I love how you share what God shows you through the good and the hard of life with us. What a comfort to know He is our all and all...every day. ((HUGS))

You certainly have a plate that overflows! I'll pray for you today that the stress and overwhelming thoughts and emotions don't overtake your desire and ability to choose well. What a blessing that the Holy Spirit lead your mind to the verse in Isaiah and then called you to be still so you could hear him! Blessings, my friend!

Wow, what an emotional week. So thankful we do indeed have Jesus to be our peace, our hope, and our joy each and every day. May He uphold you, Julie!

Wow! I needed that wisdom of a kindred spirit. We go through hard times and need fellowship like this to get us back or to stay focused on Jesus! Life can be overwhelming at times, and we ( like I myself have lately) can lose our way and perspective. I will have you and your family in my prayers. I am going through hard times and ask for prayers of wisdom and His control from my newly found fellow bloggers.
Be still and listen ( sometimes easier said ), but try to live by it.

Julie, Thank you for sharing this important reminder that there are others out there with as much if not more on their plates so we know we are not alone. Also reminding us what to choose (Jesus) for help. Because we have short memories we need reminded often that others have sturggles as well and who to choose.
